01What It Is

What is women's health?

Maybe you are pregnant and the back or pelvic pain has gotten bad enough that you have stopped taking the stairs. Maybe you had your baby months or years ago and something still does not feel right, whether that is core weakness, pain, or a body that does not quite feel like yours yet. Those experiences are common, and they are not something you have to accept as the new normal or explain away as just what happens after having a baby. Women's health physical therapy addresses the physical changes and challenges that come with pregnancy, childbirth, and the stages of life that follow.

From pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain to postpartum recovery and pelvic floor concerns, this care is built specifically around a woman's changing body, not adapted from a general program. It draws on the same manual therapy and exercise foundation as the rest of physical therapy, just applied to the specific demands of pregnancy, delivery, and the months and years that follow.

A therapist trained in women's health evaluates how pregnancy or delivery has affected your strength, alignment, and pelvic function, then builds a plan to address it directly, whether you are currently pregnant, newly postpartum, or years past delivery and still dealing with something that was never resolved. Dr. Monica Saliu, our co-founder and clinical director, specializes in exactly this stage of care, from prenatal through postpartum recovery, and brings her own experience as a former competitive athlete to how she rebuilds strength after delivery.

02Who It's For

Who it's for.

Women's health physical therapy supports patients through pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and every stage that follows, whether your last delivery was weeks or decades ago. These are the people who benefit most.

01

Managing pain during pregnancy

Back, hip, and pelvic pain during pregnancy is common, but it does not have to be constant. We help you move through pregnancy with less pain and more confidence. Treatment is adapted to whatever trimester you are in and adjusted as your body changes week to week.

02

Recovering after delivery

Your body did something enormous. We help you rebuild strength and function at a pace that respects what you have been through. That includes core and pelvic floor retraining, plus guidance on when and how to safely return to exercise.

03

Addressing pelvic health concerns

Leakage, pressure, or pain that started with pregnancy or delivery is treatable, even years later. We help you resolve it, whether your last delivery was four months ago or fifteen years ago.

03What To Expect

What to expect in a session.

Here is how a typical women's health session runs, from evaluation through your home plan, adapted at every step to what stage of pregnancy or recovery you are actually in.

01

History & movement evaluation

We review your pregnancy and delivery history and evaluate how it has affected your strength, alignment, and pelvic function. This includes a look at your core, your posture, and how your body is currently compensating.

02

Hands-on & targeted exercise

Manual therapy and targeted exercise address the specific findings from your evaluation. Sessions are adapted week to week as your pregnancy progresses or your postpartum recovery advances.

03

Progressive home plan

You leave with a home program built around your stage of pregnancy or recovery, adjusted as you progress. The goal is steady progress you can fit around a newborn's schedule, not an all-or-nothing program you cannot keep up with.

In Their Words
I found Tribeca Physical Therapy after suffering immense lower back pain caused by diastasis recti post childbirth. Monica has been such a lifesaver, she is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to women's bodies. I looked forward to every appointment because I always felt 100 times better when I left, and the best part is that she rectified the problem!
